As a member of the Young Black Scholars Club in high school, I discovered my calling as a culture shifter in a single, transformative moment. It was during our annual toy drive for a local women’s organization that I sensed an opportunity to redefine what we could achieve.
Instead of the traditional plea for toys, I asked for financial contributions. The result was astounding – a humble dollar multiplied into $300 in a matter of days, paving the way for an influx of toys in addition to the dollars being raised. This shift not only impacted our toy drives but also prompted a reevaluation of our executive team’s approach to conducting business.
This transformative moment became a beacon, guiding me through a numerous experiences – non-profits, stages, classrooms, shelters, galleries. In each, I’ve woven threads of innovation, gently nudged norms, and fostered communities where every voice finds its melody.
The path of a culture shifter isn’t always sunshine and rainbows. It’s about questioning, pushing, and sometimes even stumbling. But the reward? The silent symphony of joy that erupts when walls crumble, voices rise, and communities bloom. That’s my fuel, my purpose, my love song to the world.
So, if you’re seeking someone to dance with the status quo, someone who believes in the transformative power of shared stories and open hearts, well, that’s me. Let’s turn up the volume and paint the world a little brighter, together.
